I played the course on May 3rd with my Dad on his birthday. I can't speak highly enough of the welcome by the staff particularly those who managed to sort us out with a coffee and a sandwich in the middle of a power cut! The course was excellent although our scores weren't but we will definitely be back. Thank you.

I am priviledged to have played the West Links twice. Having played many of the best links in Scotland and Ireland. North Berwick is among the most enjoyable rounds of golf I have ever played. I will remember forever the approach to 14, and can tell the world that I made a "2" at "Redan". Best of all was being welcomed into the clubhouse for a post-round snack. I hope someday to return.

I, along with seven friends, had the opportunity to play your course on June 23, 2011. During my trip I played other great, well known course such as the Old Course and Carnoustie. I loved all of the courses but your's was my favorite. The scenery was spectacular and the course condition was excellent. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and gave us a wonderful history of the course and the clubhouse formal dining room. Finally, providing us with members as caddies made the experience truely exceptional. The gentleman who assisted me throughout the round not only saved me countless strokes but provided me with the wonderful history of your club in a delightful manner. Whenever I return to Scotland, and I hope to many, many times, I will insist in playing your course above all others. Thank you very much!

The North Berwick experience was unforgettable. The staff were friendly and helpful, the ProShop was well equipped, the Starter was outstanding and knowledgable and the course was enjoyable and memorable. Standing on the first tee you do not really know what you are going to get. What you do get is 18 unique, challenging and special holes of golf. I am glad I had the opportunity. I have played all over the world and it is an all-time favourite.

I and 11 friends had the pleasure of playing this wonderful course on July 6th 2010. From the moment we arrived at the clubhouse to be greeted by Malcolm to us leaving having dined in the clubhouse the whole experience was absolutely amazing. We were afforded the welcome of kings and the course is breathtaking with stunning views of the coastline. North Berwick is our jewel in the crown. Thanks

I have played 100 different golf courses before. This course is the best of them all. Six boys from Norway played this course and everybody shared my opinion. The weather was also on our side with a lot of wind, so we could try a links course from its best side. The personnel were exremely nice. You have to play this course if you are going to play golf in Scotland.

I visited in early June on my fifth trip to Scotland playing N. Berwick for the first time. I must say the golf course lived up to its great reputation. The golf course was a complete joy to play and the starter made us feel thoroughly welcome. North Berwick definitely goes on my must play list of courses for Scotland.

I had the pleasure to play North Berwick West two years ago and the memories are still warm. Of the five courses my friend and I played, North Berwick was the most fun and varied. I also enjoyed the staff, caddies and pro shop. I'm already stashing a few pennies a day in hopes of returning to Scotland and when I do, North Berwick will absolutely be a part of my trip.

From the moment my party and I arrived at North Berwick Golf Club on Friday 24th April, we knew we were going to enjoy a truly special day. We were greeted nicely on arrival, shown where to leave our clubs, where to change and where to book in. Sam the starter was extremely helpful, kind and entertaining on the 1st tee and my party who had travelled from 4 different countries all agreed that North Berwick Golf Course was one of, if not the most, impressive, picturesque and challenging without being unfair, golf courses we had ever played. Finally, and in order of how the day unfolded, we would like to thank the bar and catering staff for the superb food and drinks and service we enjoyed after our round. We can not wait to return, With very best wishes for the summer ahead, Peter Thornton.

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and the members of North Berwick Golf Club for a majestic and unforgettable experience that we enjoyed yesterday (22/03/2009). It was truly exceptional. While the clubhouse, facilities and course exude a class with which I am unfamiliar, it has to be said that this pales into comparison to the quality and class of the people running it.
As you can imagine it is a little daunting to arrive at a course steeped in such history and accolades but we could not have been made to feel any more welcome if we were members ourselves. Particular thanks go to gentleman who greeted us initially (situated in the bag storage reception), the starter and the clubhouse staff – who went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we had some wonderful food (and a pint – or two – of heavy) after our round, even though the official winter clubhouse hours had passed. Their kindness was appreciated. Continued below:-

All of us – even those of us who did not fair so well in the “brisk” wind – could not have imagined anything even close to what we were treated to over those – too short – few hours on the links itself. Breathtaking. The four of us had travelled up as part of a weekend away in celebration of a 60th birthday in our group, and visiting the West Links was a perfect way to complete our weekend away.
So on behalf of the four of us, please accept our sincerest thanks and gratitude for providing us with an experience that will live long in our memories. An experience we hope to repeat in the future.

What pure joy!!
I played North Berwick on a perfect day last summer after missing out on qualifying for the Senior Open Championship at Muirfield. Also played St. Andrews, Craigelaw, and KingsBarn and NORTH BERWICK is, without question, my favorite. It's a true links course making a figure 8 from town along the Firth of Forth and back to town.
This past year I set the world record (405) for most consecutive holes played but that thrill pales next to the pure joy of playing North Berwick. I'm so looking forward to my return.

Just came back from playing there for the second year in a row. Once again, the course was in fine condition, the welcome was terrific. They really make you feel part of the club, with the starter, Mr. Fox, his fine friendly self, full of tips. On June 27th, 2008, I had the opportunity to play your marvellous course, not just once, but twice. My experience was superb - your staff (I only remember the name of Sam Fox, but this includes everyone that I had contact with) made us feel so welcome, and honestly like a long lost friend. I would like to especially mention Jimmy, my caddy - not only was he extraordinarily helpful, but he was able to persuade the cook at Golfer's Rest to make lunch for us when the kitchen was closed!
I serve on the Board of Governors of the Columbus District Golf Association (Muirfield Village, Scioto CC, etc.) and I must say that if ANY of our member clubs treated their members/guests as your club does, we would be much, much the better for doing so.
I can only close by saying that I cannot wait until I can return to North Berwick to play your superb course, and experience your wonderful hospitality again.
Sincerely,
Rick Macklin

We have recently visited Scotland for the first time, playing six different courses. North Berwick being the first we played, and we all agreed (3 of us), the welcome at the first tee by the Tee Master, was the best we received on our whole trip.
We thoroughly enjoyed the challenging links and views from it. We do plan to return to Scotland, and North Berwick will be one of the courses we'd like to play again.

Of the 8 courses we played in Scotland on our recent trip, North Berwick was the favorite of our group. Had the pleasure of playing the course on June 20, just after the rains had stopped. A wonderful course from tee to green and an amazing walk along the sea. I witnessed my brother shoot a 65, while I carded a 74 with nearly an "ace" on Redan. We were treated like members from arrival to departure ... a truly unforgettable experience!

In May, 2007 my wife and I were able to spend three weeks in Scotland and Ireland, where I played 21 rounds of golf on 19 different courses. North Berwick was not the hardest or the most grand, but it was definitely one of the most enjoyable courses. We also had the pleasure of staying in a small hotel just across the street. North Berwick is a pleasant little town and the rail line to Edinburgh is very convenient. On a future trip we will stay the entire week in North Berwick, playing a few rounds at North Berwick West Links as well as Muirfield, Gullane and some of the other East Lothian courses.

I played North Berwick for the first time at the beginning of April on a beautiful sunny spring day. The staff and Members where exceptionally friendly and helpful. The course itself was in excellent condition. Having had the opportunity to play the great Scottish links courses such as Muirfield, St Andrews and Carnoustie I would rank North Berwick as a golf experience to rival those. The views of the coast and Bass Rock are outstanding. A truly memorable day. Thanks to all concerned at this gem of a Golf Club. I hope to return soon.

I have had the absolute pleasure of playing this outstanding course on two occasions in the summers of 2004 and 2005.
Once played it will stay in your mind forever. The greens are like billiard tables and the last third of the course can wreck all that had been good before it. The 18th finish is reminiscent of the last at St Andrews and woe betide a fade!! Sitting in the clubhouse reminds you of a bygone era, it's such a privilege. I have played many a fine course but this one remains by far and away my all time favourite venue. Cannot wait to return in 2007. Regards to all. - Jan'07

A wonderful golf course, probably the best in the Edinburgh Golf Coast area. Will definitely play again on the next visit to Scotland on a golfing holiday. The wall feature on the 13th hole is great and can prove to be a difficult approach shot if at the wrong side of the fairway. I also remember hole eight, when we played it was "Wind Against" and had to hit two Drivers and a eight iron into the green, a very difficult par four against wind!
Even at the time of year we played the course it was in magnificant condition thanks to all the greenkeepers. - Jan '07

Hello,I am a member of The Curragh Golf Club, the oldest Golf Course in Ireland. Golf was first played there in the 1850s(not quite as old as North Berwick). As much as I love the Curragh, I have to admit North Berwick is mine and my friends' spiritual home. We love everything about the Course and the people (and we have played all of the others in Scotland). This was our 5th year in a row to visit in October 06. We will be back again and again. It's a Gem. Thanks for the memories and here's to our next visit! - Jan '07

The West Course at North Berwick is in my top 5 places I have played in Scotland. Many holes you wish to play over and over. Not only is the course a great layout, the people make you feel very welcome. Thanks to all for making my rounds at North Berwick so special.

North Berwick is probably the most fascinating golf course I have ever played. Although the wind (thanks to Hurricane Gordon) was a bit more than I had anticipated, it detracted nothing from the quality of the course. Conditions were outstanding, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, and the members were quite welcoming. All in all, a terrific day of golf, one I hope to repeat in the near future. Thanks to one and all at North Berwick for a great day.

Dear Sirs,
My wife and I had the pleasure of playing the West Links on Sept 8th. I must say that everyone was just wonderful from the starter to the shop staff all the way through to our caddie. We had a glorious day with bright sunny skies and the course was in fantastic shape. I was blessed to birdie the last two holes to shoot the second best 18 hole score of my life (69). It was an experience I won't soon forget. We can't wait until our next trip to Scotland and hopefully a return visit to North Berwick.

Dear Sir:
I wanted to send a note thanking you for the opportunity to play at your club. I was in Scotland for the last 9 months and played North Berwick a number of times during that my stay. I always found everyone extremely welcoming and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Now that I'm back in the US, I find myself thinking back fondly at the time I spent there - especially the wonderful Pit hole.

I had the pleasure of playing a round of golf at North Berwick G.C on August 18, 2006. From the time my wife and I set foot on North Berwick we were treated with the utmost kindness and respect by the staff. The golf course was in very good condition and I enjoyed the challenge of playing there. Needless to say, if I'm ever in Scotland again, I'd like to put North Berwick on the top of my list of courses to play. Thanks again for a pleasurable round of golf.

Dear Sir:
I had the pleasure of playing your West Links Course last Monday, July 31.
All club personnel - starter, caddies, clubhouse, etc. - were of high spirits and warm in their welcomes to us, a trait we found to be common to the people of Scotland.
Since my return I have been asked by many to rate the courses we played last week - Gullane 1,2 & 3, North Berwick, The Old and New Courses at St. Andrews, Kings Barns and Carnoustie. Of them all, I found North Berwick to have been the most enjoyable. Each hole is a visual and golfing delight. Golf should be fun and North Berwick fulfilled that requirement for me best. I scored better on some of the other courses, but I found myself completely delighted during my round at North Berwick, weather notwithstanding.

I had the pleasure of playing the West Course in late June, 2006. I loved the course! What a great representative of links golf in Scotland! The course is difficult but not outrageous. It is also quite fun to play and has great views of the Firth. I hope to return to Scotland again, and if so will absolutely play the course again.

On July 24 I had the privilege of playing your course. It was my first trip to Scotland and the first course in your fine land that I had an opportunity to play. It was a wonderful and memorable experience, one that I will not soon forget. The course and my caddie, young Mr. Oliver Huish, were both fantastic. I can’t tell you how many strokes he saved me that day. My hat’s off to your course and your staff. On my next visit to Scotland I will most definitely visit North Berwick once again.

(21/06/06) Your golf course is the best course I have ever played. And I have played some beauties. (Pebble Beach, Wentworth, Carnoustie, Ganton, St Andrews, Hoylake etc) What tops it all off is that your hospitality is equally as good. Never felt more welcome. I actually dream of going back. Thankyou so much.

I had the pleasure to play your magnificent links on 25 March 2006 (30 holes played without interruption!) and I would like to congratulate you to the exeptional level of maintenance of each and every of the holes. Moreover, I was moved by the most friendly and warm welcome by Mr Fox, the starter, and everyone else of the staff.

We visited the superb North Berwick Golf Club March 2006.
The welcome we received was amazing, made to feel like a member, the friendly staff and members went out of their way to extend a friendly greeting and advice about the course. The course itself was a real treat, each hole different, a thinkers golf course, especally when the wind blows. Greens, bunkers and fairways in superb condition, a true links and without doubt the best we've played. We look forward to a return one day.

I would like to tell you how much i appreciate your efforts to preserve the tradition, the atmosphere and the integrity of this fine links. I organise a regular annual competition played over East Lothian's four best courses. Suffice to say we always play the West links.( Our other choices are Muirfield, Gullane No1 and Dunbar). Our eight golfers come away from your fine course every year just waiting for the next time we can play at the West links. Thank you for sharing such a gem.
PS my home course is The Belfry

North Berwick was the highlight of our 7 rounds of golf around the margins of the Firth of Forth the second week of September. While maintained consistent with modern standards, the course architecture exudes its 173 year history, which makes it a special treat for us North Americans that haven't been exposed to traditional Scottish golf courses. The trough green on no. 16 and the wall guarding the green on no. 13 are unexpected features that make golfing at North Berwick unique. In sum, the 14 page spread on North Berwick's West Course featured in "Scottish Golf Links" (an excellent book) accurately characterizes the feel and expanse of this wonderful course - which has been characterized as a poor man's St. Andrews. Finally, the hospitality shown at the Clubhouse after golfing was a fitting cap to a memorable day.

Visited your course on 4th August - impressed with the variety on the holes. The starter is a gem - a really pleasant, friendly and welcoming gentleman very concerned about our welfare and enjoyment on the course. Give him a pay rise -he deserves it.

Sirs, having just recently (May '05)completed a short break with 3 golfing companions to N Berwick. I thought it only apt to drop you a line of thanks and appreciation.
After many previous annual visits back "home" taking my friends to St Andrews I can only but commend you for the hospitality extended to us.
In Fife we have always been treated as another 4 ball teeing up, being hurried round by "ranchero" style marshalls and the cold reception always offered by Old Course staff was everthing but endearing. What a breath of fresh air it was to find the kind of hospitality that we Scots tend to believe we proffer to guests is alive, but it was also a relief on behalf of my visiting companions to see it flourish as their vision of a guid Scots welcome was a mere myth.
Our decision to alter our venue was thoroughly justified.
The welcome extended by Sam at the starters hut and your new Secretary was warming and gratefully received. We are already planning our next trip.

Having just arrived back from three days of golf in the North Berwick/Gullane area, I would to forward my sincerest gratitude for the warm and friendly treatment that my flight partners and I received at your distinguished club.
From the reservation of our tee-time through the starter and the staff at the club house we saw nothing but smiles.
You could also see nothing but smiles in our threesome. The course and the surroundings are second to none. At very few places will you experience and sense the long and colorful history of Golf as closely as you do on the West Links. Further even though we were there in November (taking advantage of the great winter green fees) the fairways and greens were in pristine condition.
The refreshing ale in the clubhouse, looking down at the approaches to the 18th green rounded up a great experience that we hope to repeat as soon as possible.

I was fortunate to recently (October 2004) play the West Links at North Berwick, on a brief visit to Edinburgh. Upon first playing this truly historic and magnificent links, I experienced the true feel of Scottish golf in gale force winds and intermittent rain, with my score reflecting the conditions, the awesome challenge posed by the layout of the holes (and many blind shots), as well as the sad fact that my best golf had apparently not accompanied me across the Atlantic. A few days later I was delighted to play the Old Course at St Andrews, in similar conditions and, sadly, an identical score. Two days later, for my final game in Scotland, I returned to North Berwick with the sincere opinion that the West Links surpasses anything offered by the Old Course. While the weather the second time around was perfect, it was also clear how easily my par on Redan on the first visit had changed to a 5 after finding the first of the bunkers off the tee.

Beautiful course that is superbly laid out. The walk along the coast was stunning, even if the golf coming from my clubs was not equally so! Would thoroughly recommend it to anybody that plays the game.

Played it on a calm Thursday afternoon in summer. View was awesome. Was actually shaking with fear while standing on 2nd tee. Greens were immaculate as was the condition of the whole course. View from the 19th is also to be seen.
